Visidrop

An assistive device to help with administering eyedrops.

Project Overview

For this project, I worked with a group of graduate occupational therapy students to design a medical device for consumers.

With their help, we interviewed and worked with a elderly consumer to help her with her current needs.

Her biggest need was eye drops for her cataracts which she was having difficulty administering them herself and needed an aid for help.

The reason she was having problems was because of the following issues:

  1. Cataracts made it difficult to see the eyedropper bottle.

  2. Arthritis in her wrist and hand made it difficult to squeeze the bottle.

Initial Ideation

I ideated a few different forms the assistive device could have to see which would be most comfortable and easy-to-use.

Modelmaking

I went through 8 versions of the product before determining the final design. Each generation improved the next by experimenting with different methods for administering the drops and having a more “friendly” aestetic.

Final Product

Visidrop is an assistive device for administering eye drops for people who have difficulty seeing and squeezing a typical eye drop bottle.

Features

Springs on the inside for ease of use.
